James Martin Lawrence, 73, of 2300 Tex Smith Drive, Elberton, husband of Doris Bella Fontaine Lawrence, died suddenly on Monday, August 23, 2010, at his residence. Born on July 20, 1937, in Newark, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Arthur Lawrence and Alice Bousquet Lawrence. He was of the Catholic Faith, a retired machinist from Boeing, and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Lawrence and Gean Lawrence. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Doris Bella Fontaine Lawrence; daughters and son-in-law, Diane L. and Robert Alix of Elberton, Linda Lawrence of Eagle Point, OR, Lucy Lawrence of Elberton, and Tracy Lawrence of Eagle Point, OR; son, Steven Lawrence of Eatonton; sister, Shirley Lawrence of Warwick, RI; and special niece, Sue Lawrence. Twelve grandchildren; four grandchildren; and several friends and other relatives also survive. In accordance to Mr. Lawrence's wishes, his body was cremated. A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at 4PM in the afternoon in the St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Chris Williamson serving as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends those desiring to make donations in James' honor to the Elbert County Library, American Cancer Society, or to the American Heart Association.
