James A. Pickhinke, of Elberton and Hastings, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Athens Piedmont Regional Hospital following an extended illness. He turned 66 on Saturday.
“Jim” was born in Schuyler, Nebraska to the late Richard Pickhinke and Monica Tschantre Pickhinke. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was active with the American Legion. Living in Elberton since 2012, Jim lived at Camp Harmony where he oversaw the maintenance and helped coordinate special events there. He was also the maintenance supervisor at Bubba Foods.
Jim loved fishing, bowling, and racing fast cars- once a driver but only a spectator in his later years. He was a hardworking family man and loved to make everyone around him laugh.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Pickhinke.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Clarita Pickhinke; son, Joshua Pickhinke (girlfriend, Lyndsay Dau); two brothers, John Pickhinke (Catherine) and Mike Pickhinke (Jackie); seven sisters, Mina Will (Dick), Barb Sobota (Norm), Karen Terry (Doug), Debbie Tomcak (Dave), Betty Marxsen (Jim), Theresa Vernoy (Ken), and Deann Silverster (Terry); and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is planned at a later date in Nebraska.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Harmony.
