Mr. James Robert “Bob” Bruce, 79, Mauldin Rd. Elberton, GA passed away Sunday, January 8, 2022 at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Bruce was born January 21, 1943 in Elberton, GA to James Fred Bruce and Mary Sue Mauldin Bruce. He was a member of Flatwoods Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended Bethel E Baptist Church. Bob graduated from Elbert County High School, after graduation he got a degree in electronics from Athens Vocational and Technical School and then he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he studied electronics and communications at the U.S. Naval School Command-U.S. Naval Station in Norfolk, VA. Bob spent the rest of his military career stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba Naval Air Station and aboard the USS Conyngham. After leaving the U.S. Navy, Bob worked in the granite industry for more than 50 years.
He is survived by his sisters: Claudia Strickland of Bogart, GA, Agnes Spence of Elberton, GA, Brenda Mayes of Hartwell, GA; nieces and nephews: Sonya Strickland, Bronson Strickland, Kelly Bell, Sheree Blackmon and John Bruce Mayes.
Funeral services to celebrate Bob’s life will be held 11AM, Thursday, January 12 in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Adam Blackmon officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10AM to 11AM just prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Flatwoods Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2353 Dr. George Ward Rd. Elberton, GA 30635 or to Bethel E Baptist Church, 2576 Calhoun Falls Hwy. Elberton, GA 30635.
