Mr. James Allen “Jim” Stansell, 78, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Thursday, November 17, 2016 at his home. Mr. Stansell was born in Thomaston, Georgia to the late Wayman Clifford and Vera Lee Kirkus Stansell.He was married to Mary Jane Riley Stansell, and had celebrated over 35 years of marriage together.Mr. Stansell was a veteran of the United States Navy, and worked as a truck driver for Dye Granite Company. In addition to his wife, Mary Jane, Mr. Stansell is survived by grandchildren, Lacey and Erin Stansell; children: Leisha Naggie, Lynn Martin, and David Thornton and their families; and a sister, Callie Owens, of Covington.Mr. Stansell was preceded in death by his parents;a son, Paul Stansell; and siblings: Ralph, Inez, Pat, Pearlene, “Tip”, “Diz”, and Magalene. A memorial service was held on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in The Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home, with Rev. Billy Lewis and Russell Stansell officiating.A time of visitation began at 1:00 p.m. just prior to the service.Inurmnent with Military Honors followed at Middleton United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Jimmy Webb, Alan Naggie, Chris Buffington, Trevor Williams, Samuel Gaurnella, Warren Naggie, and Cape Maxwell serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Middleton United Methodist Church, at P.O. Box 660, Elberton, GA 30635, or to The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, at 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001. Arrangements for Mr. James A. Stansell were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
