Jane Fortson Childs

Ms. Melba Jane Fortson Childs, 78, of Church Street, Elberton, entered into rest peacefully on Friday, May 6, 2016, at Pruitt Health - Spring Valley.

Jane was born in Elbert County on July 29, 1937, daughter of the late Julien Fulton Fortson and Josephine Thornton Fortson. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Elberton and a beautician having worked at Granite City Beauty Shop for many years.

Surviving are her daughter, Cindy Childs Griffith and her husband Paul of Hartwell; son, Bruce Childs of Elberton; siblings: Mary Ann Hall of Lexington, SC, Judith Fortson of Portland, OR, and Joda Fortson of Columbia, SC; grandchildren and their spouses: Cory and Ashley Griffith, Zachery Griffith, Kelly and Adam Banks, Jamie and Ben Purdy, and Pepe and Tripp Edwards; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Jill Childs Raulerson.

Friends are invited to visit the family for visitation at Berry Funeral Home from 3 o'cock until 4 o'clock on Sunday, May 8, 2016. Interment will be at Elmhurst Cemetery on Monday and, at Jane's request, will be private.
