Mrs. Jane Purcell Johnson, 75, of Deep Creek Road, Dewy Rose, wife of 49 years to Russell Lee Johnson, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Johnson was born in Elbert County on December 5, 1938, daughter of the late C.E. Purcell and Mildred Bell Purcell Thornton and stepdaughter of the late O.B. Thornton. Jane was a longtime employee of the Elbert County Court House and served as Elbert County Probate Judge for eight years. She was an active member of Stinchcomb United Methodist Church. Mrs. Johnson was also a member of the Elberton Pilot Club, the Elbert County Humane Society, the Red Hats, and Ladies Auxiliary at Elbert Memorial Hospital. Left to cherish her memories are her husband of the home; three children and their spouses: Lisa and Charles Worley of Elberton, Jeff and Julie Johnson of Ringgold, and Lauren and Russ Harris of Dewy Rose; two step-children: Kenneth Johnson and Kathy Alexander, both of Hartwell; siblings: Pat Purcell of Atlanta and Jim and Carolyn Purcell of Elberton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Ann Johnson of Elberton; grandchildren and their spouses: Brent and Cindy Alexander, Marc and Vickie Johnson, Kevin and Candice Alexander, Christina Brooks, Brittany W. and Trent Wilkes, Samantha W. and Michael Cornell, Cale Worley, Caroline Johnson, Branson Harris, Camden Harris, and C.J. Tate; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and other relatives. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one grandson, Curt Johnson. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, June 3, at 3:00p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Butler officiating. Interment will follow in the Stinchcomb United Methodist Church Cemetery with Sam Hill, Chuck Almond, Cale Worley, Branson Harris, Trent Wilkes, and Michael Cornell honored as pallbearers. Marc Johnson, Kevin Alexander, Brent Alexander, and Cody Johnson will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family is at the residence and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 12:30-2:30p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
