J.D. "Dick" Mccall

James Dillard McCall, better known as “Dick" of 2790 Washington Highway, Elberton, husband of the late Katherine Stokes Kelley McCall, finished his course in faith on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at his son’s residence, at the age of 99. Mr. McCall was born in Elbert County, December 18, 1913, to the late Dolphus Allen and Sara Ivey McCall. He was a farmer and retired as a U.S. Postal Rural Letter Carrier after 30 years of service. In addition, he worked alongside his beloved wife, Kat, catering thousands of weddings and events for many years. Dick was a member of Eliam United Methodist Church where he held many capacities and was a founding member of the Elbert County Farm Bureau. Mr. McCall was the epitome of a true, southern family man. He enjoyed visiting with all of his family and sharing many of the wonderful stories and memories he had made during his lifetime. Left to cherish his memories are his son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Jane Gaines McCall; two grandchildren, Al McCall and his fiancé, Rachel Irby and Katie McCall; extended family, Mark Adams; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by grandson, Bud Gaines McCall; and siblings, Kate Jones, Clinton McCall, Leila Wansley, Gulmer McCall, Lawrence McCall, Olaf McCall, and Caroline McCall. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 2:00PM Sunday, February 24, in the Eliam United Methodist Church with the Revs. Phillip A. Gaines, Jim Winn, and J. Wesley Privett officiating. Interment, alongside his wife and grandson, will follow in the Fortsonia Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Mark McCall, Matt Madden, Rusty Adams, Kyle Brown, Barry Brown, Chris Smith, Billy Ray Brown, Bull Bailey, and Ricky Wansley. Dick will be placed in the church at 1:00PM to lie instate until the service hour. The family is at the home of Tom and Jane McCall, 2835 Washington Highway, and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 Saturday evening.
