Mrs. Hilda ‘Jean’ Anthony Pitts, 77, of Lexington Carlton Road, Lexington, wife of 45 years to the late William Mitchell “Billy” Pitts, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2019, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital with her family by her side following a brief illness.
Mrs. Pitts was born in the Paoli Community of Madison County on October 27, 1941, daughter of the late Ralph David Anthony and Annie Sue Bell Anthony. Jean was an insurance clerk having retired from Dr. Charles Wills Medical Office after nearly 30 years of service. She was a member of Clouds Creek Baptist Church. Lovingly referred to as “Granny” by her family, Jean enjoyed scrapbooking and spoiling her grandchildren!
Survivors include her only daughter, Pam Saxon and her husband Andy of Carlton; granddaughter, Constance Saxon Reid and her husband Justin of Greer, SC; great-grandchild, Harper Reid; sister, Mavis Coile and her husband Cleo of Comer; aunt, Frances Dial of Loganville; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Monday, July 22, at 11 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. John Parker and the Rev. Blake Ivey officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park with Stanley Holmes, Christopher Parson, Bill Fincher, Mike Pitts, Rusty Graham, and Randy Dial serving as pallbearers.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Sunday evening, July 21.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
