Ms. Jean O’Neal, 90, of Heard Street passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021. Ms. O’Neal was born October 22, 1930 in Waycross, GA to John Barnwell O'Neal, Jr and Carol Anita Nelson. She was of the Methodist faith and was a practicing attorney at retirement after having a family dairy business and working in NASA’s Space Lab program in Florida before moving to Elberton.Ms. O’Neal was an avid tennis fan, devoted choir member, held a general aviation pilot’s license and graduated from the University of Georgia’s Grady School of Journalism and the Woodrow Wilson School of Law. She is survived by daughter Susan Baker Banden, son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Nelson Baker and Jacqueline Wingate Baker; daughter and son-in-law Kristin O’Neal Edge and Carter Brewer Edge; grandchildren Jeremy Stolzenburg, Jesse Panrock, Noah Edge, Liam Edge and John Collin Edge. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Dr. John B. O’Neal III, sisters Carol Elkins and Evalyn Axelson and daughter Cynthia Ann Baker. Graveside funeral services will be held at the O’Neal family gravesite in Blackshear, GA at a future date. The family has requested please to make memorials in her memory to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 398, Elberton, GA 30635.
