Jean Overstreet Adams

Mrs. Jean Overstreet Adams, of Double Bridges Road, Elberton, wife of Clyde Thomas Adams, entered into rest on Monday, May 29, 2017, at Elbert Memorial Hospital, just four days prior to her 95th birthday. Jean's final days were spent in the room in which she and Clyde generously donated financially to have renovated in memory of Clyde's sister.

Mrs. Adams was born in Douglas, Coffey County, GA on June 2, 1922, daughter of the late Thomas Watson Overstreet and Martha Lavalla Johnson Overstreet. She worked at the Elbert County Department of Family and Children’s Service for many years and was later a homemaker. Jean was an active member of Coldwater United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women for many years until her health prevented her from participating. She enjoyed gardening and being a member of the Elberton Pilot Club.

In addition to her husband of over 60 years, Clyde T. Adams, Jean is survived by her sister, Jo Overstreet Clifton; brother-in-law, Benny Brown; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the following ladies for the professional care that has been given to Jean which subsequently allowed her to remain in her home: Bessie Wilson, Betty Jones, Arizona Thornton, Barbara Rucker, and Willie Sykes.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, June 1, at 4 o’clock from the Coldwater United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Moon officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Adams will lie instate in the church sanctuary beginning at 2 o'clock on Thursday. The family will greet friends in the church fellowship hall beginning at 3 o'clock on Thursday and at other times at the residence.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the Clyde & Jean Adams Endowment, c/o Elbert Memorial Hospital Foundation, 4 Medical Drive, Elberton, GA 30635 or to Coldwater United Methodist Church, 1753 Coldwater Road, Elberton, GA 30635.
