Jimmy Beasley

James “Jimmy” Beasley, age 82, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023 while he was surrounded by his loving family.  

Jimmy was born in Baxley to the late James David Beasley and Ouida Faye Overstreet Beasley.  Always wanting to be outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and he loved to brag about pitching for the Dixie Burger softball team in his younger years.  Jimmy loved to cheer on the Bulldogs and the Braves, but above all he loved to cheer on his grandchildren- no matter what they were participating in.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jerry Beasley, Mickey Beasley, Danny Beasley, Hank Beasley, Linda Beasley, Faye Carey, and Sadie Bowen.  

He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Eleanor Beasley of the home; daughter, Cathy Roper (Kent) of Simpsonville, South Carolina; sister, Wanda Harrison (Bobby) of Elberton; and many nieces and nephews.  He was the proud “Pa Jimmy” to the apples of his eyes, his grandchildren, Lauren Kate Roper and Christopher Garrett Roper.  

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  

A funeral service will take place at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 3, 2023 in the chapel of Hicks Funeral Home with Reverend Jim McCollough officiating.  Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.  

Honorably serving as pallbearers are Cecil Oakley, Rusty Childs, Wayne Childs, Alan Higginbotham, Christopher Roper and Kent Roper.
