Jimmy Hughes "Jim" Bradford

Mr. Jimmy Hughes “Jim” Bradford, 85, of Myrtle Street, Elberton, husband of 61 years to Johnnie Louise Waters Bradford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Jim was born in Elberton on June 23, 1938, son of the late Robert Lewis Bradford and Anna Mae Dixon Bradford. After high school graduation, Jim proudly served four years in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Frankfurt Germany and was promoted to military police while there.

Mr. Bradford worked in the granite industry as a stone cutter for over 50 years, retiring from Welch Granite Company, only because he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. He was a longtime member of West End Baptist Church. A very talented man, Jim enjoyed building and constantly working on home improvement projects. He and Johnnie took great pride in tending to their lawn, something they enjoyed doing together.

He is survived by his wife, Johnnie; daughters: Beverly Wilson and Lori Bradford, who he affectionately called “Bo”; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings: Edna Mae Goodwin, Mattie Jo Vaughn, and Ben Mattox Bradford.

Jim will lie in-state on Saturday, May 25, from 9:00a.m.-1:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25, at 2:00p.m. at the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, with burial following in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Rev. Richard Fife will be officiating. The family is at the residence where they will receive friends.

The family wishes to extend their sincerest appreciation to the staff of Bristol Hospice for their kind and compassionate care during this time.

The family respectfully requests flowers be omitted. If desired, contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
