Mrs. Joan Thompson Almond died at her home on Heard Street in Historic Downtown Elberton on Friday, the 5th of February, 2021, at the age of 76. She was the wife of the late Jerrol Wade Almond for over 52 years.
Joan Elaine Thompson was born in Elberton on the 5th of November, 1944, and was the only daughter of the late Hubert Clyde Thompson and Maxine Smith Thompson. She retired as Assistant Magistrate Court Judge from Conyers, Rockdale County, Georgia. Her most prized possession and her greatest accomplishment was her family. “Nana” enjoyed shopping for and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Sonya A. and Kevin Noggle; sons: Jeff and Debbie Almond, Tim and Jennifer Almond, and Ryan and Kelly Almond; brother, Lamar and Jackie Thompson; sister-in-law, Valerie Thompson; grandchildren: Grayson Noggle (Patrick), Dalton Noggle (Cortney), Taylor Ricks (Kurt), McKenzie Noggle (Hiko), Parker Noggle, Jeffrey Almond, Dylan Almond, Ansley Almond, and Cameron Almond; great-grandchildren: River, Wake, Dalton, Natalie, and Alex; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Clyde Thompson.
Cryptside services will be held on Tuesday, the 9th of February, at 3 o’clock at the family mausoleum in Elmhurst Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Adams officiating assisted by Mr. Parker Noggle.
Joan will lie instate at Berry Funeral Home on Monday, the 8th of February, from 1 o’clock until 5 o’clock for those wishing to pay their respects and sign the guestbook.
The family is at the residence of Sonya and Kevin Noggle, 402 Heard Street, Elberton.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice.
