Joanna “Whopper” Greeson (née Wood) died in her home on Thursday, December 31, 2020 in Elberton, GA following a long illness. She was 78.

Joanna was born on March 13, 1942 in Athens, GA to her parents, James and Audrey Wood. She married John Greeson in 1969. The Greeson’s resided in Athens, GA until 1983, when they moved to Elberton, GA. After her retirement from Zoom Bait Company, Joanna dedicated the rest of her life to caring for animals, both her own and those in her community through her work at the Elberton Animal Hospital, and spending time with her family.

Joanna will always be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, “Whopper”, and pet parent.

Joanna is survived by her husband of 50+ years, John William Greeson of Elberton, GA; daughters Sarah Cooper of Athens, GA, Catherine (Eric) Glaser of Stockbridge, GA, Audrey Greeson of Elberton, GA, and son Patrick Trammell of Valdosta, GA; sister Sharon (Ross) Pendley of Athens, GA; brother Don Wood of Quitman, GA; three grandsons, three great-granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, James C. and Audrey F. Wood; brothers James H. and Walter E. “Petey” Wood, sister Tina Wood; daughter, Trina Trammell; sister-in-law, Linda Wood (née Wall); and son-in-law, Bob Cooper.

Joanna will be buried in a private family ceremony. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to your local Humane Society, Best Friends Animal Society, and the American Lung Association.
