Mrs. JoBeth Busby McCarty, 91,of Elberton, Georgia passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 19, 2017 atHeardmont Nursing Home. A native of Elbert County,Josephine Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Plummer Watson and Zelia Dixon Bubsy.JoBeth was the widow of Mr. Alton N. McCarty, having been his bride for 32 years.She did clerical work in the granite industry, having worked for Coggins, Apex, and Keystone Granite Companies throughout her career.JoBeth was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Elberton. While JoBeth enjoyed traveling, she dearly loved her family and enjoyed following her grandchildren as they participated in sports activities. Mrs. McCarty is survived by her son, Rod McCarty and his wife, Eloise of Elberton; grandchildren: Nat and Megan McCarty of Athens, Rankin McCarty, and Maggie McCarty and her fiancé, Cody Gunter, all of Elberton; and one great-grandchild, Mae McCarty. In addition to her husband,Mrs. McCarty was preceded in death by a sister, Nell Higginbotham. A service to celebrate Mrs. McCarty’s life was held on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at The First Baptist Church of Elberton, with Rev. Gary Purvis and Rev. Raymond Scott officiating.A time of visitation at the church began at 2:00 p.m. just prior to the service.Interment followed at Elmhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the ROC Building Fund in c/o First Baptist Church, or to The Shepherd’s Care Ministries in c/o First Baptist Church, 132 Heard St., Elberton, GA 30635. Arrangements for Mrs. JoBeth Busby McCarty were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
