Joe E. Acker

Mr. Joe E. Acker, 87, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Heardmont Nursing Home. Mr. Acker was born in Elbert County, son of the late Newton H. and Grace Taylor Acker. He was the husband of Nadine Hawks Acker, having celebrated over 65 years together.Mr. Acker was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church. Mr. Acker is survived by his wife,Nadine Acker;children:Tom Acker (Duval) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Steve Acker, Jane Crenshaw (Ronnie), all of Elberton;seven grandchildren;and ten great-grandchildren.He also leaves behind one brother, Nathan Acker and his wife, Alice. In addition to his parents, Mr. Acker was preceded in death by three sisters: Beryl Clark, Kathleen Weant, and Carolyn Maxwell. A service to celebrate Mr. Acker’s life was held Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in The Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Adams officiating.Visitation for family and friends was Friday evening at Hicks Funeral Home.Interment followed at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
