Mr. Joe T. Brown, 73, of Elberton, Georgia, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Elbert Memorial Hospital. Mr. Brown was the son of the late Theodore Roosevelt and Lela Miskelly Brown.He celebrated 53 years of marriage to his beloved bride,Juanita McMullan.Mr. Brown was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 42 years,serving as Postmaster of the Elberton Post Office for 15 years.He was a Master Sergeant, having retired from the Georgia Army National Guard after35 years of service to his country.Mr. Brown was a faithful devoted member of Rock Branch Baptist Church,currently serving as Chairman of the Deacons.He taught the Ruth Sayer Sunday School Class for more than 30 years. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Juanita McMullan Brown;a son, Terry Steven Brown (Lisa) of Columbia, SC;and two daughters, Karen Brown Johnson (Greg) and Kimberly Brown Yeargin (Bill).He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Taylor Steven Brown, Joseph Coleman Brown, and Robert Banks Brown, all of Columbia, SC; Conner Leanne Johnson, Dallas William Yeargin,and Josie Claire Yeargin, all of Elberton.Mr. Brown also leaves behind 2 sisters: Clara Brown Owens of Richmond, VA, and Linda Brown Stratton of Elberton;and 2 brothers: Benny Brown of Elberton, and Jack Brown of Douglasville, GA.This family cherishes precious memories of Mr. Brown as a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather, and brother. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Barry Joe Brown;and a sister, Mildred Ahola. A service to celebrate Mr. Brown’s life will be Wednesday morning, December 14, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Rock Branch Baptist Church, 2150 Coldwater Rd., with Rev. Ken Wright and Rev. Ed Sayer officiating.A time of visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday evening, December 13, 2011 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Rock Branch Baptist Church Family Life Center.Interment will be at Rock Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rock Branch Baptist Church Building Fund, 2150 Coldwater Rd., Elberton, GA, 30635. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.hicksfuneral.com.
