Mr. Joe Dan Roe, 77, of Hewell Road, Dewy Rose, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Watkinsville.
Joe was born on July 25, 1944, in Hart County, son of the late Samuel Ezekiel Roe and Mozelle Bray Roe. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his long-time companion, Brenda Jean Warenfelt Patten, who passed away on January 18, 2022; and brothers, Donald G. Roe and John Dale Roe, Sr. Joe enjoyed NASCAR racing, the Atlanta Braves, and the Georgia Bulldogs. He was an avid reader of all genres, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and learning about his family’s ancestry.
He is survived by two sons: Sherrill ‘Van’ Roe and Cary Duane Roe, both of Savannah; step-daughter, Sharon Jervis of Savannah; Brenda’s children: Bray Booth of Bowman, Melissa (Heath) Brady of Dewy Rose, and Greg (Bethany) Booth of Bowman; sister-in-law, Elaine Roe of Berlin, MD; and special cousin, Sherry Tant of Athens. Also surviving are several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other cousins.
It was Joe’s request to be cremated, and his cremated remains will be interred in the Roe family lot at Old Canon Baptist Church Cemetery in Hart County.
The family extends their sincerest appreciation to the staff at Paradise Senior Living on Hull Road in Athens as well as to the staff at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Watkinsville for the care and compassion shown to Joe.
