Joe Wallace Dye, 78, of Elberton passed away at Elberton Memorial Hospital on Friday, January 22, 2021, after a lengthy illness. Joe was married to Paula Craft Dye for almost 43 years. He had two sons: Jared and Josh Dye.

Joe was an avid hunter, Georgia Bulldog fan, and Atlanta Braves fan.  During his life, Joe was a dairy owner, quarry employee, and farm manager. He served as a cook and tank driver in Fort Knox, Kentucky. For a number years he umpired baseball and softball for  Little League and kept the pass gate at Lincoln County home football games. 

Joe loved life and always looked for the positive. He also loved spending time with family and friends and could often be heard embellishing facts to make a story better.

Joe joins his parents John Newt and Marion Frances Wall Dye, two brothers Johnny Dye and Kramer Dye, and a brother-in-law, Eugene Dye in eternal rest.

He leaves behind his wife Paula Dye, sons Jared (Kelly) Dye of Elberton and Joshua (Lisa) Dye of Lacey, Washington; three grandchildren Kyle Dye, Kaylah Moss, and Braxton Hambick; a brother Pete (Darlene)Dye; a sister Dell Dye; sisters-in-law Melinda Dye and Leigh Dye; as well as nieces and nephews and close friends to cherish his memory.

Due to COVID-19, a private funeral service will be held at Bethel E Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Joe will lie in state at Berry Funeral Home on Saturday, January 23, from 3:00-8:00p.m. and on Sunday, January 24, from 9:00a.m.-6:00p.m. for those wishing to pay their respects and sign the guestbook.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to the charity of one’s choice.
