John Barry Fleming

Mr. John 'Barry' Fleming, 61, of Middleton Church Road, Elberton, GA husband of 40 years to Dolores Lynn Shiflet Fleming, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at his residence.

Barry was born in Elberton, GA on April 9, 1962, son of John Lawrence Fleming and the late Hilda Edith Johnson Fleming. He was a 1980 graduate of Elbert County High School and a member of Middleton Methodist Church. Barry worked as the maintenance supervisor at Keystone Memorials, Inc until suffering a debilitating stroke six years ago.

A simple man, Barry loved his work and working with his hands. He was a jack-of-all trades who could fix anything. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and taking trips with his family on the pontoon. Barry was a prankster who enjoyed telling jokes and making people laugh. His spontaneous trips “north” were always family favorites - never knowing where they would end up. Above all, his favorite thing in life was being “Granddaddy”. He never missed an opportunity to cut up with his grandchildren who were the loves of his life.

Along with his wife Dolores and father John, both of Elberton, GA, he is survived by two sons: Craig Jonathan Fleming and his wife Jessie and Alan Keith Fleming, all of Elberton, GA; grandchildren: Lane Fleming and Maci Fleming; sister, Rhonda Fleming Williams and her husband Mitch of Elberton, GA; siblings-in-law: Willie Shiflet of Calhoun Falls, SC and Patricia Wells of Abbeville, SC; his “princess”, his German Shepherd Bella; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother, Hilda, he is preceded in death by his parents-in-law, John and Beatrice Shiflet; and sister-in-law, Pam Torrance.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 28, from 3:00-5:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home. No formal services will be held.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made to help the family defray funeral and medical expenses.

Those wishing may sign the online guestbook at berryfh.com.

Berry Funeral Home & Crematory of Elberton is respectfully in charge of arrangements for Mr. John 'Barry' Fleming.
