John Mark Harris

Mr. John Mark Harris, age 37, of Rome, GA, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025, at his residence.

John Mark was born in Athens, GA, on October 14, 1987, son of Mr. Chandler Ray Harris, Jr., and Mrs. Lisa Cornett Harris. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Chandler Ray and Ogretta Harris, and by his maternal grandparents, Felton and Geneva Cornett. John Mark was a graduate of Darlington School, Class of 2006, and attended Hampden-Sydney College and the University of Georgia. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity at Hamden-Sydney and most recently was employed at Barnsley Gardens where he was a chef. John Mark was a member of Rome First United Methodist Church.

John Mark never met a stranger and had a way of caring for those who crossed his path. Whether it was bandaging a wound, trips to the airport, or a place to lay their heads for a time, he was willing to lend a hand. He loved fiercely and would do anything he could for one of his friends. John Mark gave the best hugs and had the most infectious smile most had ever seen. He loved entertaining and the goal of his gatherings was to spend quality time and strengthening the relationships with his friends. John Mark loved talking food with his dad, who instilled in him, from a young age, a love of the art of cooking. He was honing his craft at Barnsley Gardens where he gained great satisfaction in making their customers feel special. John Mark loved music and was always given the responsibility of picking the songs at parties. He was always authentic to himself and was loved by all that had the opportunity to know him.

Survivors include his parents, Ray and Lisa Harris, Rome; his brother, Chandler Ray “Bucky” Harris, III, Independence, MO; Aunts and Uncles, Lynn Cornett Upton (John), Bowling Green, KY, Harry Cornett (Lori), Kathleen, GA, Larry Cornett (Kathy), Gainesville, GA, Alan Harris (Pam), Bowman, GA, and Jimmy Harris (Rosa) Bowman, GA; his cousins, Kim Cornett Myers, Gainesville, GA, Mark Cornett, Gainesville, GA, Colby Upton (Adrienne), Huntsville, AL, Harris Upton, Bowling Green, KY, Christy Cornett Baker (Ethan), Freeport, FL, Elizabeth Cornett Floyd (Chris), Rome, GA, Lauren Harris Wiley (Chris), Comer, GA, Elizabeth Harris Peach (Daniel) Bowman, GA, and James Harris (Christy) Flowery Branch, GA; his beloved pets, Lunchbox and Marshall; numerous friends whom John Mark loved dearly.

In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Harris will be cremated and a Celebration of his Life will be held at 2pm on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in the Morris Chapel of Darlington School, 1014 Cave Spring Rd. SW, Rome, GA 30161. His Uncle, Rev. Alan Harris, will officiate the service.

The family will hold a Celebration reception immediately following the service at the Student Center on the Darlington School Campus.
