John W. Lutz Sr., 70, of 165 Brookside Drive, Elberton, died September 30, 2010, at his business. He was born on May 14, 1940 in Marshall, Michigan and was the son of John Russell Lutz and Dolly Walling Lutz McIntosh. Mr. Lutz was owner of Lutz Equipment Company.He invented the Lutz Automatic Burner which is used in granite quarries throughout the world.Mr. Lutz was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps and a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.He was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying stock car racing and football. Mr. Lutz is survived by five children; John W. (Johnny) Lutz, Jr., George Crawford Lutz and wife Linda, Russell Keith Lutz, Melanie (Missy) Lutz Williams and husband Gary, and Victoria (Vicki) Lutz Hufstetler and husband Kip, all of Elberton, mother of children; Martha Langston Lutz, six grandchildren; John W. Lutz III, Russell Keith Lutz, Jr., James Michael Williams, Elijah Kipling Hufstetler, Garrett Keith Johnson, and Nicole Lynette Johnson, a sister; Sandra L. Worley.Several relatives and friends also survive. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 4pm from the Chapel of the Hicks Funeral Home with the Reverends Paul Rowe and Lacie Bowcock officiating.Visitation will be held prior to the service from 3-4pm.
