Johnny Herschel Smith

Mr. Johnny Herschel Smith of Elberton, GA., passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at his home. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Henry Hitt and Esther Davis Smith.He was born on December 7, 1941.He was retired from law enforcement, and had worked for both the Elberton Police Department and the Elbert County Sheriff’s Department.Mr. Smith had a real love for trains and his family was of utmost importance to him. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Emily Adams Smith; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Dee Smith and Danny and Christal Smith, all of Elberton; grandchildren, Emma Smith, Jack Smith, Bailee Burton, Marlia Floyd; great grandchild, Stella Floyd; brother and sister-in-law, Freddie and Sharon Smith, of Cataldo, Idaho. Funeral services were held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, January 10, 2017 in Coldwater UMC with Rev. Ann Mann officiating.Interment followed in the church cemetery.Darrell McDaniel, Gary Adams, Ted Collins, Chris Alexander, Harry Turner, Dwayne Moore, Mike Gaines and Doug Anderson served as pallbearers.
