Joseph P. Ayers

Mr. Joseph P. “Joe” Ayers, age 78, of Dewy Rose died June 15, 2009. Mr Ayers was the son of the late George Washington Ayers, Sr. and Georgia Hannah Pulliam Ayers.Having served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, he was the retired owner of Bowman Hardware and a member of Dewy Rose Baptist Church.He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Dixie Mae Maxwell Ayers; his brothers, Ira Ayers, Glen Ayers, Omer Ayers, and G. W. Ayers, Jr; and his sisters, Anna Belle Ayers, Gladys Gaines, Ressie Mae Butler, Evelyn Hood, and Hannah Ruth Myers. Survivors include several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 18, at 11:00 AM in the Hicks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Marcengill officiating.Interment will follow at Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery.The family will receive friends Wednesday evening 6 – 8 PM in the funeral home.Flowers are accepted and those desiring may make contributions to Rehoboth Baptist Church Building Fund in the name of Joe Ayers. Hicks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
