Mr. Joseph Stephen “Steve” Acker, 67, of Athens Highway, Elberton, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2020, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.

Steve was born in Elberton on June 5, 1952, son of the late Joseph Edwin Acker and Nora Nadine Hawks Acker. He was a salesman having worked for Murray Cookies and Mac Tools, and a stone cutter having worked in the granite industry. Steve was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elberton.

Survivors include his sons: Bryan and Darlene Acker of Hull, John and Breanna Acker of Elberton, and Paul and Eden Acker of Elberton; siblings: Tom and Duval Acker of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Jane and Ronnie Crenshaw of Elberton; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, January 9, from 6:30-8:30p.m. at Berry Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at their respective homes. Burial will be private in Forest Hills Memorial Park.

Contributions may be made in his memory to T.J. & Friends Foundation or to American Cancer Society.
