Joyce Deelene Almond Simmons

Mrs. Joyce Deelene Almond Simmons, 80, of 1766 Washington Highway, Elberton, wife of 53 years to the late Turnes Clayton Simmons, Sr., passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Elbert Memorial Hospital, with her children at her side.

Mrs. Simmons was born in Dewy Rose on November 30, 1941, the youngest child and second daughter of the late Caulous Almond and Mat Tavie Brown Almond. She was raised in Dewy Rose and graduated from Elbert County High School in 1960. Joyce was a member of Northside Baptist Church where she attended faithfully as long as her health permitted. In 2008, she retired from Bell Granite Company, where she had worked in numerous positions faithfully for over 30 years. Joyce loved being outdoors, especially working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She shared the fruits of her labor generously through her love of home cooking meals for those near to her heart.

Survivors include her children: Yvonne and Mike Burden of Dewy Rose and T. Clayton, Jr. and Wendy Simmons of Chesapeake, VA; and brother, Norris and Mary Alice Almond of Dewy Rose. Her favorite title was being “Mema” to her eight adoring grandchildren: Tabiatha Simmons, Rachel Simmons, Elizabeth Dobbs, Abigail Simmons, Asher Simmons, Esther Simmons, Levi Simmons, and Ruth Simmons.

Funeral services celebrating Joyce’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 23, at 11 o’clock from the graveside in Forest Hills Memorial Park with Pastor Dan Fernandez officiating.

The family is at the residence, 1766 Washington Highway, Elberton, where they will receive friends.
