Joyce Rice Chastain

Mrs. Peggy Joyce Rice Chastain, 78, of Miller Dr., Ext. wife of the late Stanley M. "Nut" Chastain passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Elbert Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Chastain was born January 8, 1939 in Dewy Rose, GA to Ralph Carlis Rice, Sr. and Annie Ruth Brown Rice. She was a member of Bowman United Methodist Church. She previously worked with Southern Bell from 1956-1958. In 1958, she joined Dr. Jack Wheeler and Dr. Don Dye where she became a Licensed Dispensing Optician working for 45 years until her retirement. She is survived by her daughter Janis Chastain of Cumming, GA; brothers and sister-in-law: Billy and Pat Rice of Elberton, GA and Kenny Rice of Bowman, GA.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by siblings: Ralph Carlis Rice, Jr., Beth Anderson, Jean Seymour and Alice Dye.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the fine staff at Elbert Memorial Hospital for the compassionate and professional care that was rendered. A very special thank you to Dr. Mark Daniel for his continued care and concern.

Memorial services to celebrate her life will be held 2:45PM, Thursday, June 8 in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-2:45PM Thursday just prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home. The family has requested anyone to dress casual preferably, jeans.

The family has requested to please omit flowers and make memorial donations to the Elberton chapter of the Salvation Army, 262 N. McIntosh Street, Elberton, GA 30635.

The family will be at the residence at 1015 Miller Drive Ext, Elberton, GA.
