Mr. Julian Eugene “Gene” Barden, 88, of Lincolnton, Georgia began his new life on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Born in Appling, Georgia, Mr. Barden was the son of the late Luther Lee and Georgia Powell Barden. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.Mr. Barden spent his life farming, and truly loved his work as he tended his farm and cared for his animals.He would not even spend a night away from home because he wanted to be sure his animals were taken care of.He also found enjoyment in attending auctions.Mr. Barden was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Lincolnton. Mr. Barden is survived by a daughter, Annelle Womack of Griffin; a son, Lee Barden of Lincolnton; and one granddaughter, Grace Preston of Louisville, TN.He also leaves behind a brother, Pierce Barden (Joyce) of Washington; two sisters: Libby (Bill) Jarvis of North Augusta, and Judy (Richard) Slister; as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Barden’s life was held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the New Hope Baptist Church in Lincolnton, with Rev. David Bohling officiating. Military Honors were provided by The United States Army. Arrangements for Mr. Julian “Gene” Barden were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
