Mrs. Willie ‘Kay’ Saxon Hufstetler, 73, of Sutton Way, Elberton, wife of 48 years to the late Robert Loy Hufstetler, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at her sister’s residence following a brief battle with cancer.
Kay was born in Elberton on June 12, 1950, the youngest of six children of John Archie “Buster” Saxon and Emma Lucille Dixon Saxon. She was a 1968 graduate of Elbert County High School who enjoyed being with her classmates and was instrumental in organizing the 50th class reunion.
Kay spent her working career in retail, most notably at Eckerd and Wal-Mart. She was a lifelong member of Eliam United Methodist Church. Kay never missed an opportunity to send those she loved a greeting card or to stop and chat with anyone she met.
Surviving are her son, Matthew Robert Hufstetler of Elberton; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine “Sis” and Wayne Smith of Elberton; sister-in-law, Pat Saxon of Elberton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Along with her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings: Charles Saxon, Ralph Warren “Tiny” Saxon, Harry Wayne “Bo” Saxon, and Ann Saxon.
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends on Thursday, February 15, from 5:00-7:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
Funeral services celebrating Kay’s life will be conducted on Friday, February 16, at 11:00a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Revs. Virginia Best and Wes Privett officiating. Inurnment will be in Fortsonia Community Cemetery.
The Class of 1968 will serve as honorary escort.
