Lamar J. Carter, age 68, of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023 following an extended illness. Lamar was born in Royston and spent most of his life in Oglethorpe County. He loved being outside, whether it be holding a fishing pole, throwing a football, or building a masterpiece out of scrap wood. Lamar was a talented artist who could fool people into thinking his drawings were actually a photograph. His talented hands could accomplish anything. Lamar’s sons will always remember their dad at the kitchen table singing Elvis and listening to Saturday Night Gold while his co-workers from Piedmont Hospital will remember him in his Pittsburgh Steelers jacket while holding a piping hot cup of coffee. His grandchildren will remember him for his big bowl of ice cream and sweet tooth, while everyone who knew him will remember his kind spirit and his joy of making others laugh. Lamar was preceded in death by his father, Ned Carter. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Debbie Pitts Carter; two sons, Jordan Carter and Justin Carter (Chelsea); three grandchildren, Makayla Raven Carter, Jake O’Neil Carter, and Elizabeth Blossom Randolph; mother, Edna Looney Thompson; and two brothers, Larry Carter (Penny) and Ricky Carter. A graveside service will take place at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 7, 2023 in the Sonlight Baptist Church Cemetery, Colbert. Reverend Nathan Palmer will officiate.
