Mr. Luther Lamar Walker, Sr., 85, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Elbert Memorial Hospital. Mr. Walker was born in the Marietta Community of Prentiss County, Mississippi to the late Audie Lafayette and Alva Sumners Walker.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Edwards Walker,and was married to Anne Stennett Walker.Mr. Walkerwas devoted to his faith, his family, his friends, and his work.He was a veteran of the United States Army, and a member of Bethel E Baptist Church.Mr. Walker owned and operated Walker Granite Company since 1972. Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Anne Stennett Walker; sons, Luther Lamar “Marty” Walker, Jr. and his wife, Rose, and Phil Walker;one daughter, Kay Walker Pitts and her husband, Phil, all of Elberton;and a step-daughter, Christy Watts and her husband, Scott, of Valdese, NC.He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a brother, James L. Walker of Jackson, TN. A service to celebrate Mr. Walker’s life was held on Friday afternoon, July 12, 2013at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Elberton with Dr. Marshall Tribble officiating.A time of visitation was at 1:00 p.m. in The Fellowship Hall just prior to the service.Interment was at Forest Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Elbert Memorial Hospital Foundation, First Baptist Church of Elberton, or Bethel E Baptist Church, Elberton.
