Larry Marlen Blackmon

Mr. Larry Marlen Blackmon, 70, of Bowman Highway, Elberton, husband of Judy Busby Blackmon, finished his course in faith on Monday, July 8, 2019. He passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by the love of his family and close friends.

Mr. Blackmon was born in Elberton on August 30, 1948, son of the late Robert Louis Blackmon and Sara Lee Wallace Butler. He was a 1967 graduate of Elbert County High School and served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Forrestal during the Vietnam Era. Larry retired as a Rural Letter Carrier after 35 years of service to the U.S. Postal Service and was also a self employed carper installer. He was a member of Elberton Christian Church, Elberton Country Club, and a former member of Elberton Elks Lodge. Larry was an avid sportsman who loved his time coaching Little League baseball and football, playing golf, and watching Blue Devil Football.

Larry had many titles in his lifetime, but his favorites were husband to Judy for 50 years, “Daddy” to Chad (Candy) Blackmon of Elberton and Brook (Todd) Jarvis of Alpharetta, and “DeDe” to Josey Lee, Lincoln Marlen, and London Rayne. In addition, he is also survived by two brothers: Ronnie (Lynn) Blackmon and Calvin Blackmon, all of Elberton; mother-in-law, Eugenia Jones Busby of Elberton; sisters-in-law: Brenda Hatcher of Tallahassee, FL and Becky (Tony) Roberts of Elberton; brother-in-law, Jack (Linda) Busby of Elberton; fur babies: Shadow, Snow, and Lucy; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to count.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, July 11, at 11 o’clock at Elberton Christian Church with the Rev. Tim Adams officiating. Military rites will be rendered by the U.S. Navy. Inurnment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park at a later date.

The family is at the home and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Wednesday evening, July 10.

The following gentleman are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church at 10:30a.m. on Thursday morning: Mike Brady, Elliott Paul, Mike Baston, Kevin Blackmon, Roger Wallace, Shayne Bennett, Jerry McClain, and Tony Roberts.
