Laura Murph Banks Lewis, resident of Elberton, Georgia, peacefully left this life on Monday, December 16, 2019, after a sudden illness. She was 70.
Laura was born and raised in Newnan, Georgia, daughter of the late Samuel Murph Banks and Mildred Overton Banks. She was a graduate of Newnan High School, furthered her education at West Georgia College, and graduated Georgia State College with a Bachelors in Victorian Literature. She was an office manager having worked at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church in Athens and a member of First United Methodist Church of Elberton. Laura was happiest when surrounded by horses, and thoroughly enjoyed all of the times she spent at Heart of Dixie Farms.
She leaves behind her husband of 33 years, H.G. “Butch” Lewis of Elberton; children: Dylan Maher of New Haven, CT, Adam and April Lewis of Charlotte, NC, and Jenny Gewirtzman of Rock Hill, SC; granddaughter, whom she absolutely adored, Aubrey Gewirtsman; and sister, Jennie Banks of Charlotte, NC. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Banks.
In keeping with Laura’s wish, no services will be held.
