Mrs. Laura Jean Ward Smith, 87, of Elberton, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017. Mrs. Smith was a native of Elberton, the daughter ofthe late Dr. George A. and Corinne Dye Ward.She was the widow of Zack Benton Smith and was also preceded in death by a sister, Marion W. Hudson and a brother, George A. Ward, Jr. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and she was also retired from the Elbert County Department of Family and Children Services, where she worked as a Case Worker for over twenty years.She was a member of Eliam United Methodist Church. Survivors include one son, Ben Smith, Elberton; one daughter and son in law, Anne and Danny Bessinger, Elberton; five grandchildren, Jeannie Jourolmon, Elberton, Jill Lavender, Elberton, Kerri Bessinger, Smyrna, Carmen Smith, Elberton, Zack Smith III, Elberton; nine great grandchildren, Emma, Eva, Ellie, and Eli Jourolmon, Daniel, Nate, Sam, and Sophie Lavender and Zariah Smith; and a sister, Mary B. Munnel, Athens. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Smith was held Tuesday, September 26th at 11:00am in Eliam United Methodist Church with Rev. Laura Patterson, Mrs. Jeannie Jourolmon and Mr. Danny Bessinger officiating.Interment followed in the Forest Hills Memorial Park with Zack Smith, Daniel Lavender, Nate Lavender, Sam Lavender, Eli Jourolmon, and David Hudson, Jr. serving as pallbearers.
