Lauren Elizabeth Slocumbe

Lauren Elizabeth Slocumbe, age 32, passed away on April 10, 2023. She was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, and friend to all who knew her and had an amazing ability to make people laugh. She had a passion for both literature and the arts. She became an avid reader beginning when her father read the Harry Potter series to her every night before bed, and her artistic skills are demonstrated by the lifelike charcoal portraits of iconic celebrities she gifted to family and friends. While Lauren aspired to establish her own interior design firm, her true passion belonged to the arts. She often spoke of her ultimate dream job as a museum curator where she could combine her love of art with her talent for creating beautiful and inspiring spaces. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Lauren was born March 14, 1991 to Lisa Ewing Slocumbe and Robert (Bobby) Jesse Slocumbe Jr. and grew up in Elberton, GA along with her brother Robert Jesse Slocumbe III. Her family later moved to Athens, GA where she attended Athens Academy, graduating in 2009. In 2013, she received her BFA degree in Interior Design from The Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia. At UGA, Lauren was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. After graduation, she moved to New York City to pursue a successful career in interior design. She was a resident of the West Village in NYC at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her father, paternal grandmother (Joan Carnes Slocumbe), and maternal grandfather (Charles Ralph Ewing Jr.). In addition to her mother and brother, she is survived by her paternal grandfather (Robert Jesse Slocumbe Sr.) and maternal grandmother (Betty Mayfield Ewing), along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A celebration of Lauren’s life will be held on May 6, 2023 at The Last Resort, 174 Clayton St., Athens, GA. 2:30-4:30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lauren’s name to Athens Academy, The Lamar Dodd School of Art at UGA, Drawchange, or the charity of your choice.
