Leonard Troy Collins

Leonard Troy “Lennie” Collins passed at his residence on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Mr. Collins was a native of Stroh, Indiana, but as a young man relocated to Oglethorpe County, GA. He resided in Carlton, GA, and was a member of Millstone Baptist Church. Mr. Collins served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Intrepid in the early 1960's. He was on active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Mr. Collins' lifelong career was established in the granite industry, in which, he supervised local quarries. Mr. Collins was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing as well as turkey and deer hunting. He also loved his University of Georgia Bulldogs.

Mr. Collins was married to Vaneitta Arlene Sorrow Collins on July 3, 1964. He was the son of the late Aswell Allen Collins & Nelia Nelms Collins. He was father to: Troy Shane Collins (wife Angela Abernathy Collins), Carlton, GA, Stacey Collins Nine (husband Craig Nine), Seneca, SC, and Stephanie Collins Burmood (husband Kurtis Burmood), Evans, GA. His surviving siblings include: Judy Childs, Colbert, GA, Jackie Kennedy, Gainesville, GA, and Donald Collins, Stroh, Ind. Preceded in death by siblings: Ruby Holcomb, La Grange, Ind., Raymond Collins, Colbert, GA, Robert Collins, Conyers, GA, Mary McCannon, Colbert, GA, and Shirley Duckworth, Comer, GA. He was dearly loved by 8 grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017, at Berry Funeral Home in Elberton, GA. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:30p.m. and the funeral will follow at 3:00p.m. Pastor David Burt will officiate. Pallbearers include: Dixon Collins (nephew, Colbert, GA), Travis Collins (nephew, Conyers, GA), Allen McCannon (nephew, Colbert, GA), Zachariah Whitsel (nephew, Athens, GA), Chuck Colquitt (cousin, Elberton, GA), Richard Jones (cousin, Young Harris, GA ). Mr. Collins will be laid to rest at the Carlton Cemetery, Carlton, GA.
Flowers will be accepted.
