Lewis Smith, 73, of 2235 River Road, Elberton, Georgia husband of the late Jackie Inez Thompson Smith passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012 at his home. Born in Elberton, Georgia July 21, 1938 to the late Charlie H. Smith and Nobie Gunter Smith. Mr. Smith was a retired sandblaster from the granite industry and a truck driver. He was a member of Fortsonia Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memories are his daughter and son-in-law Yvonne and Mike Gordan of Danielsville, Georgia; son Charlie Howard Smith of Elberton, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law Curtis and Hope Smith of Winder, Georgia; son Donald Smith of Elberton, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law Chris and Carol Smith of Elberton, Georgia; sister Joyce "Kitty" Smith Cheek of Winder, Georgia; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by brothers L.H. Smith, J.A. Smith, Alton Smith, Maurice Smith, Curtis Smith, Herman Smith, Wesley Smith, Joe Smith and sisters Edna Tipaldos and Elma Crowley. A Celebration of his life will be held Sunday, May 13 at 2PM in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. David McConnell officiating. Interment will follow in Fortsonia Community Cemetery with C.J. Smith, Zach Smith, Derek Lord, Tyler Smith, Brandon Rucker, Mckinley Gordan and Amanda Smith serving as pallbearers. The Smith family will be at the home 2235 River Road, Elberton and will receive friends from 7-9PM Saturday night at Berry Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may be flowers or memorials made in his honor to a charity of one's choice and online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.berryfh.com.
