Ms. Linda Wynell Sanders Johnson, 76, of Clairmont Avenue, Elberton, passed away suddenly but peacefully on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Heardmont Health & Rehabilitation Center, where she had resided since August 2024.
Linda was born in Elberton on March 29, 1948, the oldest of two children of Leonard ‘Joel’ Sanders and Doris Wynell Rhodes Sanders. Her parents and baby brother, Leonard ‘Van’ Sanders, preceded her in death. Surviving are her son, Danny ‘Len’ Smith of Lavonia; niece that she loved as a daughter, Mistie Sanders East of Lavonia; aunt and best friend, Betty Jo Rhodes Poole of Elberton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Linda was a proud 1966 graduate of Elberton High School. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church and an active volunteer with the Elbert County Food Ministry. Linda was a hard worker who worked in the textile industry at both Elberton Mills and Hartwell Garment Company. She also worked briefly as an assistant manager at Hardees, and retired from the sandblast department at Everlasting Granite Company.
Linda was very smart and had a creative soul. She loved crafting, arranging flowers, and creating anything she set her mind to. Linda always had a smile on her face and never turned down an opportunity to help someone else, refusing anything in return. She was an animal lover, and spoiled her dogs and cats immensely. Her happy-go-lucky disposition and devotion to her family will be missed dearly.
The family is at the home of Betty Jo Poole, Wilcox Heights, and will receive friends on Monday, January 6, from 5:00-7:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
Funeral services celebrating Linda’s life will be conducted on Tuesday, January 7, at 3:00p.m. at Concord United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tim Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Alex Johnson, David Sanders, Johnny Bowman, Jason East, Darryl Dickerson, and Cole Acker are honored to serve as pallbearers and Leon Smith, Allen Cartledge, and Jeff Poole as honorary pallbearers.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to Elbert County Food Ministry, c/o Tommy Eavenson, 1917 Sunrise Court, Elberton, GA 30635.
Those wishing may sign the online guestbook at berryfh.com.
