Lisa Buchanan Franklin

Mrs. Lisa Buchanan Franklin, 58, of Washington, Georgia, entered into rest Monday, December 19, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family and her little kitten, Linus.

Mrs. Franklin was born in Elberton, Georgia and graduated from Elbert County Comprehensive High School in 1982 and attended Athens Technical College where she earned her Para-Professional degree in Early Childhood Education. She moved to Washington when she married in 1983 and began raising her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Washington, where she sang in the Senior Choir and played hand bells. She was an Auxiliary member of our local Wilkes-Lincoln Gideon Camp. From 1993-1996, she was an assistant teacher at the First Baptist Church Pre-K of Washington and taught the children writing and language skills in a Christian framework. She watched these children grown up throughout the years, get married, and have children of their own. In 1996 she began working at Country Charm where she learned to make flower arrangements and wreaths. She continued to enjoy making flower arrangements and made her family members wreaths she made especially for them. Lisa could tie a perfect bow. In 1997 she became administrative assistant to Dr. W.C. Branan and assisted him with billing and ordering. As a bonus while working with Dr. Branan she got to know a lot of people and learned the family history of generations of people in this area. In 2004 she became an administrative assistant at Palmer Equipment Company. She loved the family and friends at Palmer’s. Her most recent role was Deputy Clerk at the Wilkes County Clerks Office where she helped schedule court dates, send notices to parties, attend court and assisted the judge with any matter that may arise during hearings or trials. She was active in volunteer work in the community until her health became an issue, serving in PTG and on the school advisory board. She chaperoned for school events, church events and 4-H as well and was a Cub Scout Den mom. Lisa loved the Charlie Brown character Snoopy, so her home was filled with Snoopy decor. Along the way she loved the ones she was with, gained many friends and helped people along the way the best she could, and she will be greatly missed.

Lisa was the daughter of the late Betty Jo Tatum Buchanan and Donald Eugene Buchanan. Mrs. Franklin is survived by her husband, Jeff Franklin; a son, Jonathan Franklin of Washington; a daughter, Katie Miller (Tyson) of Marietta, OK; brother, Dennis “Buck” Buchanan (Kate) of Brunswick; sister, Lynn Vaughn (Bill) of Dewy Rose; three grandchildren, Kaelin, Kara and Kendall Miller of Marietta, OK; two nieces, one nephew and one great nephew.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 23, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Washington with Dr. Phil Pilgrim and Rev. Bill Vaughn officiating. A private interment will follow at the Flatwoods Pentecostal Holiness Church in Elberton at a later time. The family will receive friends and family from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Gideons of the Wilkes-Lincoln camp.
