Lona Carolyn Childs Burgess, 81, died January 30, 2022.
Born in Elbert County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Thelma Borders Childs.
Carolyn had many interests in her life. She had a green thumb and loved her garden. She would spend hours there making sure everything was perfect and in bloom, and she was also very fond of her leaf blower. Not only that, but she loved spending time with her family and friends and if they stayed the night, she'd always whip up a hearty country breakfast for the morning.
Carolyn loved spending her holidays with her children, Suzanne and Tim, and was so happy and proud of their families. She loved spending time with her granddaughters, Odette and Cali who were the apples of her eye. Meme was always so joyous and loving, she's gifted these girls so many fond memories and advice.
Carolyn was a longtime member of Clayton Baptist Church. Carolyn was also quite active on the city council at Sky Valley. She always helped in making her community a better place to live. She had the ability to get a lot of tasks accomplished, and she would not rest until everything was completed. No matter the task or her age, Carolyn was a determined woman, and she set the perfect example of being content with life and being independent. Carolyn had an impeccable sense of style and an eye for design, she spent many years living in Aspen partnered with a cashmere store, she really loved that experience. She had a very fond love of the mountains and by the time she left Aspen, she was ready to be back in the mountains. She was a classy, happy, and social woman who touched the lives of everyone who came into contact with her. She will be missed by all, but her legacy lives among us.
Carolyn is survived by her son Tim Burgess and his wife Missy Burgess of Watkinsville; daughter Suzanne Burgess of Athens; brother Russell Childs of Locust Grove; grandchildren, Odette De Camier of Athens and Cali Burgess of Watkinsville; the father of her children, Marvin Burgess and son in law, Phillippe De Camier.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
