Lonnie Mathis “Bud” Smith, 80, of 2433 Indian Hill Road, Elberton passed away on January 19, 2011 at Athens Regional Medical Center. Bud was born on July 14, 1930, in Oglethorpe County, Ga.He was the son of the late Jack Smith and Abalena Slay Smith.Mr. Smith served his country during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the bronze star. Mr. Smith was survived by his loving wife Wadene Tate Smith, of 57 years, daughters; Elaine Rousey and Janet (Harry) Floyd all of Elberton, grandchildren; Eric (Charla) Rousey, Quinn (Tammie) Floyd ,and Jerri Floyd of Elberton, great-grandchildren; Chas, Tailor and Logan Rousey , Rachel and Cruz Floyd of Elberton, great-great-grandchild; Colton Rousey,brother James “Dink” Smith of Elberton and sister Alma Anderson of Savannah. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Abalena Smith, brothers; Julian and Cody Smith, sisters; Eloise Almond, Dorene Franklin and Ailene Jackson. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Falling Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Gibson and Rev. Dwight Morgan officiating at 2 pm.Visitation will be from 12 to 2pm prior to the service.Interment will be at the Falling Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Falling Creek Baptist Church. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.hicksfuneral.com.
