Mrs. Lorene Godsey Brown, 89, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at her home. Mrs. Brown was born in Elberton, daughter of the late Floyd and Effie Haynie Godsey.She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Herndon Brown, with whom she had celebrated over 53 years of marriage.Their first “Hello” was when Tom got a glimpse of this beautiful lady on the Elberton Square as she walked to work one morning.Lorene worked as an operator for Southern Bell for over 33 years prior to her retirement. Though Lorene and Tom never had children, she poured her heart and soul into loving others as though they were her children.She once said of her sister, Jane, “I can never thank my sister enough for sharing her children with me and Tom.”Her neighbors became her “bonus family” as she poured herself into their families. Lorene was a faithful and devoted woman of faith, serving as a Deacon and Elder at Calvary Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Adult II Sunday School Class, and leaves behind a lasting legacy of faithfulness. Survivors include her nieces, Tina Mewborne and husband, Rick, and Renae Moss and husband, Wesley; a nephew, Randy Lunceford and wife, Dianne; great-nieces, Jana and Nick Milford, Jodi Mewborne and Bryce Keely, Brooke and James Burke, and Callie Moss; great-nephews, Cody Moss and Alex Ivester; great-great-nephews, Jace and Jax Milford; great-great-nieces, Kinsley Mewborne and Charlee Burke; a brother-in-law, Gene Lunceford; and a sister-in-law, Louise Evans.She also leaves behind her “bonus family” which includes her goddaughter, Megan Dixon, along with Jason, Madelyn, and Macray, Wanda and Dale Willis, Lisa and Adam Hendrix, and Grant Hendrix. In addition to her beloved husband, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by a precious sister, Jane Lunceford, a dear brother, Bud Godsey, and an infant brother, Raymond Godsey.She was also preceded in death by very dear friends, Ed and Helen Ayers, whom she loved as though they were her sister and brother. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Lorene Brown was held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 12:00 Noon in the Hicks Funeral Home Chapel, with Mr. Tommy Fields officiating.A time of visitation for family and friends began at 11:00 a.m. just prior to the service.A private entombment followed in The Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memorial Park with Cody Moss, Alex Ivester, Nick Milford, Adam Hendrix, Jason Dixon, and Bryce Keely serving as pallbearers. Flowers were graciously accepted, and memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Presbyterian Church, c/o Mr. Tommy Fields, 131 Heard Drive, Elberton, GA 30635. Arrangements for Mrs. Lorene Brown were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
