Mrs. Lorene Pearson Sorrow, age 92, of Elberton, beloved wife of 54 years to the late Rev. Benjamin Edwin “Ben” Sorrow, entered into rest on Sunday, November 27, 2016, at Nancy Hart Nursing Center.
Born in Danielsville, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Newton “HN” Pearson and the late Bertie Mae Goodrum Pearson, and was also preceded in death by brothers: Vinson, Harold, and Leroy Pearson and sister, Annie Ruth Pearson. Mrs. Sorrow was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elberton where she taught Sunday School and was a life member of United Methodist Women. She was an administrative secretary having worked at Fosters Jewelry in Athens. She retired at the age of 80 after having worked for 50 years on Clayton Street in downtown Athens. Lorene enjoyed gardening in her spare time.
Surviving are her daughters and their husbands: Marie and Sid Adams of Elberton and Sheri and Mitchell Lewis of Burke, VA; grandchildren: Melissa and John Fleming of Hartwell, Ryan Adams and Jennifer Suddeth of Winterville, Jamie and Kory Keenan of Chattanooga, TN, Audrey and Josh Harper of Decatur, GA, and Drew and Suzanne Lewis of St. Paul, MN; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; siblings: Kathryn Swindel, Willette Jackson, Blenda Smith, Vonnie Parnell, Rebecca Bradberry, Eugene Pearson, and Frank Pearson; brother-in-law, James Sorrow; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, November 30, at 2 o’clock in the First United Methodist Church of Elberton with Chaplain Mitchell Lewis and Vicar Andrew Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.
The family is at the residence of Sid and Marie Adams, Double Bridges Road, and will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
