Loretta Phillips Freeman

Mrs. Loretta Phillips Freeman, 75, of Watkinsville, GA died Sunday, January 14, 2024.

Mrs. Freeman was born in Anderson, SC on February 19, 1948, daughter of the late Jonah Baxter Phillips and Chester White Phillips. A former sewing plant employee, she was a retired parking attendant for Athens-Clarke County. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed every opportunity she had to cook for them when they were all gathered together. Loretta enjoyed shopping and putting together puzzles; however, her favorite pastime was swinging in her front porch swing.

Surviving are her husband of 58 1/2 years, F. Lamar Freeman; children: Fran Ayers (Bill), Jackie Freeman, and Jason Freeman and sister, Martha Phillips, all of Oconee County. She was a devoted “Grammy” to her grandchildren: James  Ayers (Rachel), Brandon Williams, Justin Ayers, Blake Williams (Angel), Zach Ayers, Victoria Fellers (A.J.), and Brianna Ricketts (Emory) and great-grandchildren: Ethin and Elle Ayers, Austin, Daisy, and Chase Williams, and Kennedy Ayers.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings: Helen Garner, Joyce Bradford, Clyde Phillips, Arthur Phillips, Noah Phillips, Lillie Mae Webb, Leon Phillips, and Jimmy Phillips. 

The family will greet friends on Saturday, January 20, from 10:00-10:45a.m. at Deep Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:00a.m. with the Revs. Tim Adams and Richard Fife officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
