Lucy Brown Gomez

Mrs. Lucy Brown Gomez, of Lake Forest Drive, Elberton, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Georgia.Mrs. Gomez was born in Elbert County, January 16, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Cecil and Clyde Caldwell Brown and step-daughter of the late Thelma Ruff Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Acebo Gomez. She was retired from the granite industry and was a member of First Baptist Church, Elberton. Left to cherish her memories are her long-time friend and companion, Harold Carter of Elberton; daughter Rita Knight of Madison, Georgia and son, Robert Louis Gomez (Bob) of Raleigh, North Carolina; grandchildren, Amanda Knight of Madison, GA and Abby Knight of Milledgeville, GA; brother, Parks H. Brown, Sr. and wife, LaVerne, of Athens, GA; sister-in-law, Mary Brown, Elberton, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by siblings Frances Murdock, Eva Herring, Mary Jo Pleasants, and David Brown. Funeral services celebrating her life were held Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Hicks Funeral Home, Elberton with Gary Purvis officiating. Interment followed in Elmhurst Cemetery with Mark Brown, Parks H. "Buddy" Brown, Jr., Jack Fricks, Barry Herring, Bobby King, Brandon King, Kristopher King, and Larry Snow serving as pallbearers.
