Mrs. Lucy Kate Alexander Pless, 89, of Lonesome Dove Road, Elberton, wife of 70 years to Frank ‘Grady’ Pless, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Pruitt Health at Spring Valley.
Mrs. Pless was born in Elberton on April 24, 1934, daughter of the late Henry Frank “Doc” Alexander and Alma Grace Holmes Alexander. She was a faithful follower of Jesus who enjoyed visiting nursing homes and singing gospel music. Lucy Kate read her Bible daily and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
She was an exceptional homemaker who prided herself in cooking three meals a day, making cornbread and biscuits each morning. Sunday dinners and every holiday were spent with the entire family gathering at her home, something she always looked forward to. Lucy Kate was a talented seamstress who made easter baskets for her family each year. She enjoyed spending time working in her gardens, and loved her family and friends dearly.
Surviving, in addition to her husband Grady, are her children: Ray Pless and his wife Linda of Dewy Rose, Deborah Thomas and her husband Jerry of Anderson, SC, and Judy Gaines and her husband Tony of Elberton; and brother, Wilton Alexander and his wife Linda of Hartwell. Granny also leaves behind nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by an infant son, Mark Allen Pless; and siblings: Horace Alexander, George Alexander, Frank Alexander, Raymond Alexander, Willene White, and Alma Jo Carruth.
The family is at the residence of Ray and Linda Pless, Nickville Road, Dewy Rose, and will receive friends on Friday, January 12, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
Funeral services celebrating Lucy Kate’s life will be held on Saturday, January 13, at 2:00p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Buffington officiating. Interment will follow in the Coldwater Methodist Church cemetery.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to Georgia Alzheimer’s Foundation, Inc., PO Box 20226, Saint Simons Island, GA 31522.
Those wishing may sign the online guestbook at www.berryfh.com.
