Luther Talmadge “Bubber” Evans, Sr. passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023- one month prior to his 84th birthday, and three weeks prior to his 56th wedding anniversary. Luther was born in Elberton to the late Luther Alexander Evans and Lois Black Evans Pless. A true outdoorsman, he loved being outside- whether it was in a deer stand, holding a fishing pole, or sleeping under the stars. Before settling back home in Elberton and becoming a stone cutter, he proudly served in the United States Army and the Army Reserve National Guard. Luther was a resourceful handyman who could fix anything with whatever he had on hand, refusing to go to the store to purchase the needed items. He was a member of Falling Creek Baptist Church, and his greatest joy in life was to be surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Laverne Evans of Elberton; four children, Gloria Routh (Donny) of Midway, Luther Evans, Jr. (Amy), Mandy Bastyr (Chris), and Brandy Scoggins (Brent), all of Elberton; six brothers and sisters, Caldon Webb (Homer) of Elberton, Larry Evans (Yvonne) of Elberton, Preston Evans (Debbie) of Tignall, Bonnie Lovett of Greenwood, South Carolina, Steve Evans (Kim) of Fortsonia, and Wynna Burt (Randy) of Carlton. Luther’s greatest title was “Papa” to his ten grandchildren, Chris Routh, Andy Routh (Kristen), Chris Evans (Kimberly), Matt Evans (Brianna), Nick Evans (Macy), Josh Evans, Rebecca Bastyr, Justin Bastyr, Robert Scoggins, Savannah Scoggins; six great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
