Mabel Gaines Ward

Mabel Gaines Ward, 92, of Elberton, Georgia, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, December 23, 2010, Spring Valley Health Care Center. Mrs. Ward was born in Elbert County on January 22, 1918, to the late Otis Gaines and Inez Teasley Gaines.She was married to the late Clifton P. Ward from 1939 until his death, April 10, 1982.They ran a grocery store until their retirement in 1980. Survivors include her daughter, Sylvia Ann Ward Alexander and her husband Roy Alexander of Elberton, one granddaughter, Paula Ann (Dwain)Harris, grandsons, Chris (Darlene) Alexander, Brad (Kacey) Alexander all of Elberton,five great-grandchildren, Drew Harris, Grayson Harris, Ethan Alexander, Evan Alexander, Chase Alexander, one great-great grandson, Eli Alexander. Mrs. Ward was also preceded in death by two brothers, William H. Gaines of Elberton and Thomas O. Gaines of Nashville, TN. Funeral services for Mrs. Ward will be Friday, December 24, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. at the Rock Branch Baptist Church.Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.Interment will be at the Rock Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Elberton, Georgia.Rev. Ed Sayer and Rev. Ken Wright will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rock Branch Baptist Church Building Fund or to a charity of one’s choice.
