Mable Ann Hayes Greenway

Mrs. Mable Ann Hayes Greenway, 80, of Rock Branch Road, Elberton, GA, wife of the late Carroll Eugene Greenway, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at PruittHealth at Spring Valley.

Mrs. Greenway was born in Anderson, SC on June 25, 1942, daughter of the late Hugh Marvin Hayes, Sr. and Mae Bell Dickson Hayes. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant having retired from Brown’s Convalescent Center in Royston, GA.

Mable was a member of Rock Branch Baptist Church and attended Historic Ruckersville Church. One of the first female firefighters in the State of Georgia, she and Carroll worked tirelessly with the Rock Branch Volunteer Fire Department.

She loved being outside, especially working in her flower gardens, raking and burning leaves, and was never too busy to stop and appreciate the sound of birds chirping.

Survivors include her son, Russell Eugene “Rusty” Greenway and his wife Becky of Elberton, GA; siblings: Sue Brown of Iva, SC, Evelyn Sanders and her husband Larry of Hartwell, GA, and Melvin Hayes and his wife Debbie of Iva, SC; sister-in-law, Ann Hayes of Anderson, SC; grandchildren: Anna Sheridan and her husband Chris of Greensboro, GA, Andrew Greenway of Elberton, GA, and Morgan Canady of Augusta, GA; great-grandchildren: Jake Sheridan and Luke Sheridan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Bo Hayes.

Graveside services celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, October 27, at 2 o’clock in the Rock Branch Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas Moon officiating.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends on Wednesday, October 26, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
