Magnettie Pless Burden

Mrs. Nancy ‘Magnettie’ Pless Burden, age 89, of Elberton, died at PruittHealth Spring Valley on Monday, October 10, 2016. She was a member of the Elberton Church of God.

Magnettie was born in Stephens County on October 8, 1927, to John and Hannah Davis Pless. She is also preceded in death by seven brothers, two sisters, and her husband, Jim Frank Burden, age 92, who died in November 2009. Magnettie and Frank married on January 22, 1944, and celebrated 65 years of marriage before his death.

Magnettie was a homemaker who raised five wonderful children. In addition to working outside the home for several periods of time, she was also an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed quilting and sewing fashionable clothing for men, women, and children. Her beautiful handmade quilts have been enjoyed by many families over the years.

Left to cherish her memories are her children and their spouses: Henry and Erlene Burden of Elberton, Gene and Linda Burden of Athens, Charles and Cindy Burden of Elberton, Shirley and Vernon “Junior” Vaughn of Elberton, and Sarah Anderson of Elberton; twelve grandchildren, fiftteen great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, October 11, at 4 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Leon Suttles officiating. Burial will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery where Magnettie will be laid to rest beside her husband Frank. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 3:00-3:45p.m. on Tuesday just prior to the service.
